How to Draw
Anyone who wants to learn to draw can benefit from this series of drawing instruction videos. They are easy to follow and filled with great tips from an accomplished artist. Kenny O’ leads you step by step while offering up encouragement as you progress. He has a fun personality and teaches in a relaxed, conversational tone that sets you at ease. He eagerly shares his excitement for his craft and genuinely appears to be enjoying his time with you.
Even someone who has never put pencil to paper to create art can benefit from the lessons. You are taken step by step through the drawing process from breaking down the basic lines and shapes of a figure to adding expression and color to breathe life into your creation. Not only are you provided with the basic aspects of drawing you are given advice about proper techniques such as how to hold your pencil, before watching this video series I never knew the way I was taught to hold a pencil to write was not the same way I should hold it to draw.
As you complete each lesson you can mark it as done and track your progress on your dashboard as you learn. There are handy lesson notes that summarize what was covered in each lesson for a quick refresher. An option to mark certain lessons as favorites is also handy for those you may wish to come back to. The page is easy to navigate and a quick touch of the question mark shows you where each option is on the page. You can also easily download the videos to your iPad and just as easily remove them when you are ready to move on.
The cost of this app is reasonable, especially when you consider that Maholo.com will be adding lessons each month. The videos are a bit lengthy in some cases, Kenny O’ has a lot to say but for the younger artists in the family it may require a bit more attention than they might have. The examples he draws using the digital screen are quite light and can be difficult to see at times. Overall this application is well worth both your time and the cost if you would like to give those stick figures you typically draw a bit more life.
