Greatest app

Great app guys I cant wait to show my friends at the end of the break all my doodles! After every lesson I show my brothers and parents my pictures! I ❤ learn to draw! Totally worth $1.99! Most apps I buy arent wort it but this ones a keeper! At first I bought the lite or free version and I was like " what? These are all the lessons you get??" I did the anyways but without all the other lessons its more difficult. P.S. Kenny, youre an amazing drawer Ill never be able to be as good as you!

Thought Id get to draw

This is a decent app and it teaches sound principles but the app previews make you think youre going to get a more interactive experience. Good lessons but for kids it should be more geared towards them and more interactive for the money spent.

Fantastic App..

Mahalos "How To Draw" is a fun application that helps people learn how to draw. It takes you on a step by step journey from learning how to hold a pencil to training your drawing muscles, and from learning how to draw shapes to making those shapes into characters. The videos are very informative dont just limit you to learning how to draw stick figures or random characters. The first video series moves from the basics of drawing to learning how to draw Sponge Bob Squarepants, Bikini Bottom, the other characters and more. For fans of this great cartoon, learning how to draw your favorite characters is exciting. Its amazing how you go from a blank white screen to an action packed drawing. This program will offer packs each month to learn how to draw other popular characters like the Mario Brothers and the Disney movie the Lion King. Kenny O. is your expert artist and host of this application. His personality and charisma are engaging and allows users to have a more enjoyable experience.

How to draw

Im not sure what age group this app is trying to reach. Seems a little complicated for a smaller child( a lot of talking ). Better for an older child or an aspiring artist.

Comprehensive and fun

So much content. And the instructor Kenny O’ is so encouraging and funny. A must for SpongeBob fans, but the lessons here could really be used to draw anything. I have no drawing experience and I got a lot out of this, but I think it would be good for all skill levels.

Drawing Spongebob

I really enjoyed using How to Draw even though they use cartoon characters to teach you the basics. Since the app covers all types of basic drawing preparation like choosing materials and holding your pencil, it really gives you what you need to learn other types of drawing. My drawings didnt turn out as good as the examples the instructor made, but I did see improvement as I followed the lessons. I think this app is mostly aimed at kids and the parents of children. It would be nice for the company to offer a version of this app that is for adults. I do find it encouraging that they add more drawing lessons on a regular basis. This makes it worth the cost of the app. If it just had the few lessons that it first started with, it wouldnt be worth the price.

Creative family

We have an 8 year old niece that comes over a few times a week to play and when our children are napping, she loves to play the iPad. She also loves Spongebob; so this was a great app for her to try out. My husband is a middle school art teacher, so we are a very creative family, if you will, with a lot of drive to test out our creativity. This app was easy to navigate and understand, was clearly labeled and fun! The downfall was that it did hang up a lot when trying to view the videos. There were times when we would have to get out of the app and re-enter it in order to continue to watch the videos. $9.99 was a little expensive for the content, as you can buy art books that teach similar things for about $4 to $5; although it is helpful to have somebody talking you through the steps. If the hanging up could be fixed, it would have been easier to follow.

Sponge who?

Lots of content but not a very professional presentation overall. Constant use of phrase "you guys" is annoying and hands fluttering and often covering his face is distracting. Needs more practice presenting material so it flows smoothly instead of hesitations and looking off camera for next point in the script. Tying the lessons into application to other characters, real animals, people would be more helpful and establish a goal for the "student."

How to Draw

Anyone who wants to learn to draw can benefit from this series of drawing instruction videos. They are easy to follow and filled with great tips from an accomplished artist. Kenny O’ leads you step by step while offering up encouragement as you progress. He has a fun personality and teaches in a relaxed, conversational tone that sets you at ease. He eagerly shares his excitement for his craft and genuinely appears to be enjoying his time with you. Even someone who has never put pencil to paper to create art can benefit from the lessons. You are taken step by step through the drawing process from breaking down the basic lines and shapes of a figure to adding expression and color to breathe life into your creation. Not only are you provided with the basic aspects of drawing you are given advice about proper techniques such as how to hold your pencil, before watching this video series I never knew the way I was taught to hold a pencil to write was not the same way I should hold it to draw. As you complete each lesson you can mark it as done and track your progress on your dashboard as you learn. There are handy lesson notes that summarize what was covered in each lesson for a quick refresher. An option to mark certain lessons as favorites is also handy for those you may wish to come back to. The page is easy to navigate and a quick touch of the question mark shows you where each option is on the page. You can also easily download the videos to your iPad and just as easily remove them when you are ready to move on. The cost of this app is reasonable, especially when you consider that Maholo.com will be adding lessons each month. The videos are a bit lengthy in some cases, Kenny O’ has a lot to say but for the younger artists in the family it may require a bit more attention than they might have. The examples he draws using the digital screen are quite light and can be difficult to see at times. Overall this application is well worth both your time and the cost if you would like to give those stick figures you typically draw a bit more life.

Great and I look forward to more content!

Learn to Draw’s strength is that fact that it understands that drawing is something that both children and adults love to do and strives to teach it in a way that will interest both. The teacher has a manner and style that will entertain children but also clearly knows what he’s talking about and will earn the respect of adults. Learn to Draw covers the basics of drawing, starting with how to hold a pencil, and goes on to teach how to draw many a cartoon character. Also, the fact that it promises to add new lessons is an extremely attractive feature of this app. The layout is also children friendly and they should have no trouble using it. It might be nice if Mahalo released a Learn to Draw app not focuses on drawing cartoons, but this app is definitely a good buy.

Fun watch

This app is more of a TV show than interactive drawing experience. The talent is good, personable and enthusiastic. Good basics on how to draw. I recommend!

Not for kids

This app is awesome, my only reason for knocking it down to 4 stars is that within the first line of the description is sounds very kid-oriented. Not so much the case in my opinion. Although the app is very helpful in teaching how to draw some popular characters, it seems the teaching is more oriented towards older kids, teenagers and even adults. Kids need more interaction as they are learning and even so, this app is just a step above what I think most under 12 are capable of. We still really enjoyed this app, got it just in time for halloween and tried to draw some of the stuff straight onto our pumpkins!

Nice App for artist

For 99 cents, I think this is a great app. The iPad sits perfectly on the desk to the side as you pay attention to the details to your creation. The skill set is great for aspiring artist who might want to this professionally. The app teaches you the basics which one could take and apply to other areas of artistic work. Really enjoyed it. Would of been much cooler if I could interact and trace the steps, but seeing how this is from the creators of Learn Guitar and Pilates, it stays true to design and offers a great skill set. through high quality movies. Dont think that this app is interactive, but rather a tutorial of how to. 4 out of 5

Not able to open!

Does this app works on iPad 2 with iOS 5.01, even this new update Im still not able to open! Learn Guitar has same problem! But other Mahalo Learn app I can open without problem? Does this happen to other ppl?

Good for any skill level

Great way to lean how to draw. Just prop your iPad up next to your canvas and quickly improve your skills.

Great for kids!

My nephew cant get enough of this app! The host is fun and makes learning the basics easy to follow along with. Its the perfect tool for every babysitter!

Great for beginners like me

Im absolutely terrible at drawing. I gave up a long time ago back in middle school. However, I actually found the 7 intro videos in this app very useful! It will take me some time but Im sure at some point Ill be able to move onto all the other more advanced chapters.
